U.S. runaway productions are those which are developed and are intended for initial release/exhibition or television broadcast in the U.S., but are actually filmed in another country. There are two major types of runaway productions - ‘creative’ runaways, which depart because the story takes place in a setting that cannot be duplicated or for other creative considerations, and ‘economic’ runaways, which depart to achieve lower production costs. - Directors Guild of America
