About
About this interview

In his nearly one-and-a-half-hour Archive interview, Peter Boyle (1935-2006) reminisces about growing up in Philadelphia, where his father performed on local children's television shows. He describes the brief tenure he spent as a monk, before embarking on his acting studies with Uta Hagen. He outlines his early career in improv and in films including "Joe" and "Young Frankenstein." Boyle discusses acting in the television movie Tail Gunner Joe and talks of his acclaimed work on the series NYPD Blue and The X-Files.  He then details his work on the long-running sitcom, Everybody Loves Raymond. He describes the audition experience, his character of "Frank Barone," his co-stars, and various key episodes of the series. Allan Neuwirth conducted the interview on November 8, 2005 in New York, NY.

"I do always have a feeling that 'Raymond' sort of comforted America after [9/11]. The following week is when syndication actually started and we were on 11 times a week."
