"The final episode of 'Everybody Loves Raymond' is about the joys of life, the simple joys when you're lucky enough to have them. .. that's the most powerful stuff."

    About This Interview

In her two-hour interview, Monica Horan discusses her early interest in comedy and performing and speaks of how she was influenced by television comediennes like Carol Burnett. She talks of her subsequent involvement in theater throughout college and as a young adult living in New York City, and describes some of the roles she played on stage, including parts in Vampire Lesbians of Sodom and Tony 'n' Tina's Wedding. She recounts meeting her husband, actor/writer Phil Rosenthal, and recalls projects they worked on together, including Down the Shore and Everybody Loves Raymond, the latter of which Rosenthal created. She speaks of the inspiration for Everybody Loves Raymond, mentions some of her own life experiences that influenced Rosenthal's story ideas for the show, and talks about her favorite episodes. Horan comments on her Raymond co-stars, details her experiences portraying "Amy MacDougall Barone" on the show, and shares how her role changed from recurring to regular. Karen Herman conducted the interview on April 13, 2005 in Los Angeles, CA.
