This Is CNN's 30th Anniversary

The 24-hour news network began broadcasting at 5 PM EST on June 1, 1980. The network came into its own with the outbreak of the Persian Gulf War in January 1991, and has since become the go-to breaking news source. In his Archive of American Television interviewed Ted Turner talks about the "open newsroom" set of CNN, an idea he credits to founding president and CEO of CNN Reese Schonfeld.
